The Butter Factory Studios team has outdone themselves for this years Great Southern Art Trail exhibition, entitled 'Threshold'. The exhibition was inspired by the way in which 2020 was a 'threshold' year in may ways, and each of the 10 Butter Factory artists have taken the theme in different and diverse directions.

Be sure to check out Janine McCrum's powerful and exquisite body of work which highlights gender-based violence in Australia, and Ann Copeman's work which examines the breath as the 'threshold' between the inner and the outer.

Earth Cry Exhibition at the Butter Factory Studios 2020

The Earth Cry Exhibition (2020) is the Butter Factory Studios' collective response to the dramatic summer of bushfires in Australia between 2019-2020.

My painting 'The Messenger' (left) was inspired by an image of my youngest daughter Tali on Goode Beach (near Albany) doing a beach plastic clean up late last year.

This painting is part of my Legacy series, which explores the impact we hope to leave for our collective future generations. The Legacy body of work will be shown in WA in 2021 and 2022, and is a collaboration between painters, poets, textile artists, photographers and sculptors in Western Australia and Western USA.

Unravelling Exhibition, Vancouver Arts Centre

Jen Mitchell working on 'Unravelling' ex

The Unravelling exhibition will be officially opened on Saturday the 16th of November  at 1pm  at the Vancouver Art Centre in Albany. Please join us for light refreshments in the front gallery - friends and families are very welcome!

Unravelling is a neo-cubist exploration of the human form, in which a single body is seen from many angles.

Metaphorically, this exhibition looks at the way in which our experiences are mapped onto the human body as knots, which, with the upmost attention and care, may begin to be unravelled.

These paintings are taken directly from life drawing sessions, and encased in gold.
